2021 Lohr School of Woodworking Scholarship
The aim of this scholarship is to provide an opportunity to aspiring woodworkers who would otherwise not be able to afford tuition to a woodworking school. Recipients will be selected by committee based on financial need and displayed dedication to learning the craft. Scroll down to apply.
This year, thanks to the generosity of Erik Curtis and those who participated in his raffle, we’ve raised enough funds to invite two woodworkers to take both our Practical Woodworking Course and our Box Making Workshop. The Lohr School of Woodworking will pay for lodging during each course.
Application deadline is February 5th, 2021. Recipients will be notified March 1st, 2021.
A huge thank you goes out to Erik, who donated a beautiful cherry wall cabinet to raise funds for the first offering of this scholarship. We look forward to offering a similar program at the end of every year going forward. Here’s what Erik has to say:
“Woodworking is an expensive hobby. One that has so much value to bring to a life, yet it’s joys are financially out of reach for many. I’m really hoping we can change that for one person at least. I’m raffling off this cabinet for a full tuition scholarship to a class at Lohr Woodworking to someone who would not otherwise be able to afford it and for whom learning the craft would make a difference in their life…”
Details: We are located in Schwenksville, PA (about 35 miles NW of Philadelphia). As there is no lodging on the property, Lohr Woodworking will cover the cost of the stay at a local hotel for the recipients of the scholarship. Students will be responsible for food and transportation. No tools or prerequisites are required to complete the courses. Recipients will be able to select the course offering(s) that best fit their schedules but courses must be taken before December 2022 for the scholarship to apply. The 2021 course schedules are currently posted and the 2022 classes will be posted in September of this year. Recipients will be asked to take Practical Woodworking first. In this six-day course, students turn rough oak boards into a completed hall table being taught safety and technique of machines, handheld tools, and hand tools along the way. Box-Making is a workshop based on only the limits of your creativity. Students design and build their own unique box over three days.
