We haven't seen you in a while. We miss you. Come see us this weekend at the Philadelphia Furniture Show. It's happening Friday through Sunday, April 13-15, at the 23rd Street Armory in downtown Philly. You can use the code "LohrFriend" for 50% off admission on Saturday or Sunday.
Larissa and I are very proud of the collection of pieces we're showing this year. The pieces in this show represent several years of experimentation and a defining sense of who we are as furniture makers. We'd be happy to share it with you in person.
We always take the time leading up to a show to make a new speculation piece. A sideboard has been on our list for a long time, so we decided to embark upon that mission this winter. The piece is made from some beautiful Pennsylvania cherry, with figured maple panels and drawer fronts.
This piece challenged us to try a few things that we haven't done before. One of the more fun and exciting aspects of the sideboard is the secret drawer. We have been thinking about adding secret drawers over the last few months and Larissa really nailed it with this one. You'll have to come to the show and see if you can find it.
When it came time to make the pulls, we knew we wanted to do something unique and different. After watching a Michael Fortune video on hot pipe bending, I thought there could be some cool possibilities there.
Hot pipe bending involves heating a pipe with a torch or some other heating device, then bending green wood around the curve of the pipe. JUST DON'T TOUCH THE PIPE! Larissa managed to make a dozen or so without making contact.
After a few different mock ups, she nailed down a delicate pull, pinned together with brass rivets.
We're really excited about this new piece and all of the work we've been putting out over the last year. We hope to see you this weekend!
